Beth is a Master Scenic Artist with professional experiences ranging through Theatrical Scenic Painting to scenic and prop painting and design for television and film, designing and developing museum installations and scenic painting work on theme park installations.

Just a few of her favorite venues outside of Carnegie Mellon have been as Scenic Charge Artist for the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, Designer and Creator of an installation for the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, and as an Artist and Designer in the Art Department of the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood show. At Carnegie Mellon, Beth enjoys using her skills and years of experience to help Drama students become strong Designers and Theater Technicians.

I am intensely interested in the ways that man-made structures can change, through time, weather, and use, into increasingly unique places with increasingly organic surface textures and colors. I am also interested in exploring human interpretations of visual symbols and colors and how the interpretation of these non-verbal cues changes over time.

I have an immense amount of experience working on large scale pieces that are designed for specific audiences and spaces. Some examples of these are theatrical scenic pieces for all manner of productions and permanent museum installations, exhibits and murals. As well, I have been a Professor for more than 20 years and am invested in helping students discover who they are as artists.
